Ducks lose to St. Marys

December 14, 2009

It was much better than the last game at Missouri. But the Ducks ended up with another loss just the same. They have four home games coming up before conference play starts and they really need a sweep.
St Marys is a talented and experienced club; the Ducks match them in the former, but come up far short in the latter. St Marys raced out to an early 9-0 lead, but the Ducks battled back and it was their game to win the rest of the way.
Many Ducks had great individual moments, Armstead, Singler, Crittle, Williams, Jacob, Longmire. Catron and Porter, the two most experienced Ducks didn’t play, and Dunigan still is trying to put a complete game together.
Over this span of games before conference play begins, the Ducks need to get a lot of practice in and a rotation set. The lack of a rotation is directly related to the missed free throws, not finishing shots at the rim, and unforced errors. All of these are symptomatic of the players having to think too much instead of being at ease on the court.

Ducks lose to Gaels

Gaels beat Ducks

December 13, 2009

It was a much better effort than the Ducks showed against Missouri, but it still ended up with a loss. The Ducks have a home stand of four games before conference play and anything less than an undefeated run would be very disappointing.
St Marys is a talented and experienced outfit, the Ducks can match them in the former, but fall very short in the latter, a major factor in how the game played out. Catron & Porter, the two experienced Ducks were again absent; but the youngsters battled back from a 9-0 opening deficit and should have won the game.
There is still no rotation and that that plays into the lack of focus which plagues the team this season. Several Ducks had individual moments, Armstead, Crittle, Longmire, Singler, Williams; each had positive minutes, but lack of cohesion was exposed, particularly late in the game.
